Telemedicine
Definition
Telemedicine is the field of biomedical engineering that allows professionals to do their job (evaluate, diagnose and treat patients) at distance using telecommunications technology.
Telemedicine vs. Telehealth
It is important not to misunderstand telehealth with telemedicine (even if it is sometimes discussed interchangeably with telemedicine).
In the U.S.A, the Health Resources and Services Administration distinguishes telehealth from telemedicine in its scope, defining telemedicine only as describing remote clinical services, such as diagnosis and monitoring, while telehealth includes preventative, promotive, and curative care delivery. This includes non-clinical applications, like administration and provider education.
Personal appreciation
I must say, this field of biomedical engineering is the one I know the fewer. Thus, we are going to discover it together with the articles of this blog! Isn't it exciting?
